17th March 2020

Dear Patient

Due to the recent Corona Virus outbreak we are implementing changes to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff.

As of Monday 16th March all appointments must be made via telephone. Please bear with us as the telephone lines will be busy. Each patient will be contacted by a clinician to discuss your symptoms.  If an appointment is necessary you will be allocated a time by the clinician.

As of Wednesday 18.3.20 Machynys Medical Centre will be closed until further notice. If you have a pre-existing appointment with the midwife please contact your midwife for advice on rearranging.

We aim to keep the prescription turnaround at 48 hours but this will be monitored by the demand.  You will be given 3 monthly pre-dated prescriptions.  You can contact your pharmacy to request your prescription and arrange delivery as usual.

MED3 Certificates

During the current COVID-19 Pandemic we are following UK Government advice and self-isolating for 7 days (living alone) / 14 days (as part of a household).

As you will be aware, by law, medical evidence is not required for the first 7 days of sickness. After 7 days, employers may use their discretion around the need for medical evidence if an employee is unable to return to work.

To independently issue medical certificates for all those affected by the need to self-isolate would add further pressure to already stretched resources.

It has been suggested that employers use their discretion around the need for medical evidence for a period of absence where an employee is advised to stay at home either as they are unwell themselves, or live with someone who is, in accordance with the public health advice issued by the government. This will allow GPs to focus on their patients’

Your co-operation at this time is appreciated.

We thank you for your patience at this time.

Kind Regards
